The Dairy
Regional Assistance Program, worth $65 million, will assist dairy communities
with new industry development and employment. It is administered by
the Department of Transport and Regional Services.
Funding will
be distributed amongst regions identified as particularly affected by
the removal of State farmgate milk regulations. Identification of regions
has been determined by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
in consultation with the Commonwealth-State Taskforce established in
March 2000 to monitor and evaluate the impact of dairy deregulation
on regional Australia.
