The Dairy Adjustment Authority was established on 3 April 2000 under the Dairy Produce Act 1986, as amended by the Dairy Industry Adjustment Act 2000 and the Dairy Produce Legislation Amendment (Supplementary Assistance) Act 2001. The Dairy Structural Adjustment Program Scheme 2000 and the Supplementary Dairy Assistance Scheme 2001 provided the basis for the Authority to make determinations and payments to eligible dairy producers. The Authority is a prescribed agency under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 and is responsible to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
